Our process: сrafting 3D medical animations

This is where it all begins! We dive into the project kick-off meeting to discuss the theme, target audience, style, and final output. Whether you have a specific story in mind or are looking for new ideas, it’s equally important to understand your vision and set clear objectives while assessing technical requirements. Additionally, we’ll be aligning internal project resources and suggested timelines.

It’s really important to make sure that medical animations are done with scientific accuracy. This step is about working closely with medical experts who look over the creative brief and give us feedback so that the animation is accurate and reliable. Then, writers develop a detailed script that includes clear narration and precise descriptions of the visuals. Throughout the process, scientific communicators make sure that the information is not only factually sound but also easy to understand for the target audience.

Storyboard creation

The storyboard is basically the visual concept for the animation. Our artists turn the script and medical input into a sequence of hand-drawn frames that show the main scenes, camera angles, and transitions. We put together a draft that focuses on clarity and precision and incorporate client feedback through revisions to perfect the storyboard. This gives us a solid foundation for the next stages of the project.

Animatic development

When developing the animatic, our team transforms the storyboard into a series of polished “rough cuts.” These help us make sure the pacing, timing, and flow are just right. We create two animatics, with each one building on the last one. A1 is all about the basic movements and scene transitions, while A2 is where we polish things up with better lighting, more details, and a more refined look. This process helps us make sure we’re on the same page with the client before we start production.

Creation of 3D models

Guided by the input of our medical experts, our 3D artists convert complex medical data into amazingly detailed 3D models. What makes us stand out is our extensive library of pre-built, anatomically accurate 3D models, which greatly accelerate the video creation process. This means our clients can save time and money because we can use the existing models, change them to suit specific needs, or create new ones to fill any gaps ensuring visual accuracy and scientific precision.

Review and refinement

The quest for anatomical precision doesn’t end with the initial creation of the 3D models. Each model is reviewed in multiple stages to guarantee accuracy down to the tiniest detail. Our medical experts examine every aspect of the 3D structures, from the shape and proportions to the placement of minute features. This back-and-forth between artists and medical professionals guarantees that the final 3D models meet the highest standards of visual quality.

Initial Animation

Here, our 3D animators jump into action. They bring the storyboard to life with incredible precision, focusing on movements, transitions, and light. We create a detailed and engaging animation that aligns with the client’s vision. Using the insights gained from the animatic process, we create an animation that accurately reflects the client’s vision.

Reviews and feedback

We present the client the first animation, get their feedback, and make any necessary adjustments. This way, we can make sure the final product meets the client’s expectations. We refine the animation until every aspect, from motion to color, is perfect.

We enhance the animation with 2D graphics, including titles, logos, and additional graphical overlays, to make it even more impressive. These elements add depth, context, and visual interest to the video and ensure alignment with the client’s brand and style.

Final adjustments

In the final round of reviews, we guarantee that every detail is carefully examined and implement any necessary adjustments to perfect the animation and deliver a product that is polished, engaging, and effective in communicating the client’s message.

We deliver the final product in whatever format the client needs, and we’re not done yet. Beyond that,  additional support to maximize the reach and impact of the animation. This includes preparing visually attractive video covers for platforms such as YouTube, creating strong text descriptions to accompany the video, and even publishing the video on its own to any platform if desired. Our job is to make sure our clients get the most out of their animation and achieve their goals.
